Happy Sales
Does your community allow for garage or yard sales? If the answer is yes, then it’s time to get planning for a summer sale.
Yard sales, garage sales, rummage sales or bazars are a fantastic way to bring people together. One community hosts a “Trail of Sales” each summer that allows homeowners to list their addresses and a few of their sale items in a publication that goes out to everyone in the area. The publication includes a map with markers for the homes included in the sale.
What a great way to spend a Saturday. It’s like going on a scavenger hunt but for useful things like furniture, baby items or that 1970s fondue set up that would make your grandmother proud.
Planning a community wide sale takes time. You’ll need to notify your members or unit owners, and you may even need to hold a special meeting for a vote on the issue. But once planned, your owners and members will be thrilled to clean out that closet that everyone refers to as the “Abyss” or to finally get rid of that gently used recliner that doesn’t quite fit in with the rest of the décor.
If your community members and owners are civic minded they may choose to donate the proceeds from the sale to a local cause or charity. You may even ask area businesses to supply water, plastic bags, advertising or to donate items for the sale. And don’t forget that everyone loves a baked item. Perhaps there’s a local group of kids that needs a fundraiser to help kick start a program or upcoming event and would love to hold a bake sale during your community sales event.
However you plan it, you’ll be exhausted when the last sale is made, but you’ll have had a wonderful time interacting with your community and helping them to get to know one another.
Happy sales!
